Free Webinar: IEEE Introduction to EDGE Computing

Registration is now open to attend the free webinar IEEE Introduction to EDGE Computing.”

Edge computing allows smart applications and devices to respond to data almost instantaneously, as it’s being created, eliminating lag time, which is critical for technologies like self-driving cars.  Learn about this transformative concept in cloud computing and how it will impact technologies far and wide from some of the leading voices in the field.

Our Presenters:

Mahadev Satyanarayanan (Satya) is an experimental computer scientist, a founding pioneer in edge computing, mobile computing, pervasive computing, and Internet of Things. He is the Carnegie Group Professor of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU).[1] He is an ACM[2] and IEEE[3] fellow.   In his research career, Satya has focused on the performance, scalability, availability and trust challenges in computing systems that reach from the cloud to the mobile edge of the Internet. He has pioneered many advances in edge computing, distributed systems, mobile computing, pervasive computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Dr. Weisong Shi is a Charles H. Gershenson Distinguished Faculty Fellow and a Professor of Computer Science at Wayne State University. There he directs the Mobile and Internet Systems Laboratory, Connected and Autonomous Driving Laboratory. He is an IEEE Fellow and a Distinguished Scientist of ACM. He was the founding steering committee chair of ACM/IEEE Symposium on Edge Computing (SEC), the author of the first Edge Computing book.

Primary Discussion Topics

  • Technical differentiation, benefits and uniqueness of the blockchain, with an emphasis on incremental implementation.
  • Developments by the big cloud providers, and the advantages and limitations of traditional databases versus blockchain systems.
  • Blockchain as the Internet of Value, including digitizing real assets, digital asset trading, agreements and smart contract deployments.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of both sessions, attendees will be able to:

  • Discern how blockchain is different from other similar technologies and what its unique advantages can provide.
  • Identify how blockchain applies to certain business use cases, and why that matters.
  • Explain recent enterprise-level innovations powered by blockchain, including use cases in supply chain, power and energy energy, finance and healthcare.
  • Recognize where the technology is going next, and ways to stay ahead of curve.

Virtual Event Attendance Benefits

  • Explore how blockchain technology can be used to solve problems and create real value for enterprises.
  • Review case examples of implementations of blockchain–both in development and in-use–that highlight how businesses incorporate blockchain into their organizational strategies.
  • Receive industry-leading knowledge and insights to help make the most informed decisions about blockchain-dependent businesses and operations.
