Course Description

State requirements for Professional Engineers in the U.S. include one to six hours of ethics training and one to nine hours of management training. Courses in this series cover ethics, leadership, and communications skills. Ideal to help meet continuing education requirements to maintain Professional Engineer licensure and for engineering students and professionals to learn important business skills that will help build a successful career.

Steven Starrett PhD

Steve Starrett is an Associate Professor of Water Engineering at Kansas State University where he has taught courses in engineering ethics for over ten years. He is a member (and past chair) of the Committee on Licensure and Ethics for the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE). Dr. Starrett served as a Technical Chair for the Environmental and Water Resources Institute 2009 Congress. Dr. Starrett is the principal and owner of Starrett Engineering, LLC and a licensed Professional Engineer in four states.

Kim Sydow-Campbell

Dr. Kim Sydow Campbell is professor of management communication in the marketing and management department at The University of Alabama’s Culverhouse College of Commerce. Her specialty areas include: Health Literacy, Leadership Communication, Qualitative Research Methods, Scholarly Publishing, and Technical Communication. Dr. Campbell received her B.A. and Ph.D. from Louisiana State University. She has authored three books and has served as editor-in-chief of the IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication and was awarded the Emily K. Schlesinger Award for Distinguished Service from IEEE.

Barry L. Shoop

Professor of Electrical Engineering and Deputy Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, United States Military Academy at West Point

Barry L. Shoop is Professor of Electrical Engineering and Deputy Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Currently as Professor and Deputy Head he is responsible for an undergraduate academic department supporting ABET accredited programs in electrical engineering, computer science, and information technology. He received the B.S. from the Pennsylvania State University, M.S. from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, and Ph.D. from Stanford University, all in electrical engineering. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a Fellow of both the Optical Society of America and the International Society for Optical Engineering.
