Edge computing allows smart applications and devices to respond to data almost instantaneously, as it’s being created, eliminating lag time, which is critical for technologies like self-driving cars. Learn about this transformative concept in cloud computing and how it will impact technologies far and wide from some of the leading voices in the field.
Mahadev Satyanarayanan (Satya) is an experimental computer scientist, a founding pioneer in edge computing, mobile computing, pervasive computing, and Internet of Things. He is the Carnegie Group Professor of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). He is an ACM and IEEE fellow. In his research career, Satya has focused on the performance, scalability, availability and trust challenges in computing systems that reach from the cloud to the mobile edge of the Internet. He has pioneered many advances in edge computing, distributed systems, mobile computing, pervasive computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Dr. Weisong Shi is a Charles H. Gershenson Distinguished Faculty Fellow and a Professor of Computer Science at Wayne State University. There he directs the Mobile and Internet Systems Laboratory, Connected and Autonomous Driving Laboratory. He is an IEEE Fellow and a Distinguished Scientist of ACM. He was the founding steering committee chair of ACM/IEEE Symposium on Edge Computing (SEC), the author of the first Edge Computing book.
